In the beginning of 2014 three companies (from central Germany) assigned the University of Applied Science (Hochschule) Magdeburg-Stendal to analyse environmental savings in greenhouse gas emissions through the use of regranulates. In that special study, the research focus centered on the comparison between the specific savings in kg CO2 equivalents (CO2eq) per kilogram regranulate/flakes (regarding the recycling of secondary raw materials) and the production of analogue products from the primary raw materials. With the help of ecological monitoring and in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14040/44, the accounting tools Umberto NXT LCA, the corporate data and conservative, loads and be verifiable assumptions were for the companies involved in the study in specific savings from 1.45 to 3, 23 kg CO2 eq per kg produced major product (flakes or regranulate) are determined. With the help of the ecological monitoring according DIN EN ISO 14040/44, the balancing tool Umberto NXT LCA, the enterprise data and the conservative, reliable and verifiable assumptions the involved companies achieved specific saving between 1,45 and 3,23 kg CO2 äq per produced main product (regranulate/flakes). Based on these results, the ecological potential of plastic recycling is shown. Postgraduate aim must now be to promote awareness of the problems associated with the use of recycled materials savings and effects on consumers, so that more and more plastic products with recycled materials be normal part of daily life. Aspiration has to be the raising consciousness for the specific saving in due to the use of recycling materials subsequently more and more plastic products with recyclat parts should become an element of daily living
